I just had spacers put in my mouth. 12 total, 3 in each quadrant. If you’ve never had the joy of braces, spacers are the little rubber bands they put between your teeth before attaching the actual hardware. They are used to spread the molars apart enough to be able to get various metal bands in and around your teeth later.
It feels like I’ve got food stuck between every one of my teeth. And biting sucks because it forces the bands farther into the region between my teeth causing pressure on the tooth itself. Hopefully I’ll get used to it soon.

I got spacers yesterday, and it hurt like HELLL!!! when they put them on and in the hours following, but they didnt hurt when i went to sleep and i woke up and they still didnt hurt at all. But i have tried to eat m and ms but ive been unsecsesful and my teeth hurt afterward. PLZZZZZZZZZZ help me with what to eat and what not to eat, i was soooooooooo stupid with the m and ms i had to take advil like 2 each hour. HELLLLLLLPPPPPPPP!!!!!
i got my spacers in Tuesday its friday and im living in hell, I had 2 spacers break and had to go back earlier today and get them replaced to my already sore mouth. I have to make it to wed. for the braces. Advil helps some but im hungry and can only manage ice cream and soup. I want pizza, Tacos, Or steak maybe. I hope it gets better.The thing we go through in life.lol
Darren u can still eat pizza but not the crust, but try to avoid eating on the spacers in case they start to hurt.. I am 38 years old and I always wanted braces but couldnot afford them, finally i found a doctor that was affordable, so today i received my spacers they are not really bad just really uncomfortable, I want to lose weight anyway so this is good for me and plus this is my B-Day present, I am getting my braces on April 27,2007 my B-day, I will be 39 and this is my present to myself. I can’t wait to see how I look 18 months from now. So ice cream, yogurt, puddings, applesauce, oatmeal and me will be good friends and hopefully I will be much lighter. Beauty comes with Pain.

I just got spacers today… It’s uncomfortable and hurts, but I’m willing to do it for braces! I went to McDonald’s right after I got the spacers and managed to down a medium fry with my tongue and front teeth. Ick. Now my Mom’s making *pork-chops* for dinner…like that’s gonna happen! Applesauce for me! 😛
I just e got my spacers yesterday they were fine at first. then later after i ate supper fine they started to hurt. I ate alot of pop-sicles and frozen grapes to numb my mouth it didn’t work. I thought they would feel better today, no luck. they still hurt like crap. I want to rip them out I don’t know if i can take it for another week!
I just got spacers put in yesterday! They were fine at first. Then I woke up this morning in my teeth feel horrible! I woke up at 4 in the morning to unbareable pain!!!!!I don’t know how I can get through this day! I’m just waiting for the pain to go away like people say it will.
hey everybody. i went to get my x-rays done last week and they start putting spaers in by accident. yea it feel like someone is yanking at your back teeth with their bare hand! lol I actually officially get them put in on minday(6/18). but one question, do i get my braces put in at the same time?
I got my spacers yesterday (6/14/07) and at first it wasn’t that bad. I have two up top and four on the bottom! But last night they started hurting so I put some oral b on it and they felt better. Well today they are just killin me! And I have a cut on my mouth because my ortho tried to put one in on the top in the back but my teeth are to tight back there so now it has a cut from tryin! And thats not the best news…I have to wear them until the 25th, and thats the day I get my braces as well!
ok…so i finally got my spacers put in monday. its now wednesday and im fine. i woke up this morning feeling a little sore, i took some aspirin, and once again im good. my mouth is a little tender and i can’t eat too much, but for the most part, its just an uncpmfortable feeling. liek u have steak between ur back teeth. i have 4 on the bottom and 4 up top. i get my braces tuesday (6/26/07)
hey so i just got my spacers on yesterday and the first day it didnt hurt. it didnt even hurt for half of 2day but now i cant even chew. yesterday it was just irritating but now i feel like i want to ripe them out.only 5 more days with these things and i get my braces.
I got my spacers Monday and today is Thursday. When I got them I didn’t feel much pain and I wondered why everyone always whined about them. Then I went to lunch and tried to chew and it really hurt. That night I woke up in pain and had to take asprin, and they’ve hurt ever since. I can’t even close my teeth without it hurting. I can’t wait to get them out, I’ve been tempted to rip them all out but I won’t. It’s worth it, I just can’t wait for it to be over. My bite has already changed because of the spacers. My teeth don’t sit the same. I have 13 spacers 7 on bottom and 6 on top (had a tooth pulled so it’s an uneven number).
ok…its me again… 1 day later… i can’t even eat pasta without my teeth feeling like they are about to fall out of my mouth. i cant even talk correctly. 5 days to go if i dont yank them out my mouth first!! …and they say braces are worst!?!?! OMG!
i got my spacers yesterday.. wen they were putting them in.. it didnt hurt a bit so i was saying to everyone “oh! it didnt even hurt”.. but after 5 hours.. oh hell no!! i was begging for advil..so i took two advil.. then this morning.. all i ate soup with rice… i cant even chew the rice.. then i was craving for oreo.. but since i cant eat.. i dipped it into a milk.. then kaching.. delicous… i cant even talk properly cos i cant close them together.. i feel bad for my self.. oh well.. cant wait till this is over…

It’s not so bad, I’ve had them for like almost a week and i think i swallowed mine when i was eating (a metal spacer) im scared rite now and not sure what to do, but it’s okay i feel fine and im not like in critical condition as of now. This wednesday i do get my two teeth pulled out as well as the spacers removed, one pain to the next, that’s what is going to happen. Does anyone know what happens if u do swallow a metal spacer?
i know!my orthodontis said if i acidently swallow 1 it will just go through your digestive syestm and nothing will happen.getting spacers tomorrow!allright i’m in the musical cinderella(penkucket players)plz come if u r in the area.I have a solo how can i sing with spacers in GREAT aaarrrrgggghhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the first day i got spacers, it wasn’t so bad. but day two brought pain like never before: cant chew on anything harder than cooked rice. It’s day three and the same pain with the same intensity is there. to chew slightly crunchy stuff, my technique is to bite with my front teeth, cuz the spacers are in the back. It still annoys a little, and you don’t really taste the food to its fullest, but atleast you kinda eat.
I got my spacers yesterday, on the night of day one pain I have never felt before started.

I got the rubber spacers yesterday… I felt strange at first, not much pain… but then at night it started to get nasty >.
Omg, I got spacers about a week or so and i was like kool…they were lil rubber circles no biggy…i get home and when i wake up in morning IM GOING CRAZY they hurt so bad…i have to wear them a month and yet now they dont hurt very much just annoying…plus i lost like almost all of them I MEAN I HAVE THEM STILL but trying to figure out how to put them back in.,..any advice!!!??????

Omg Spacers Sound Painful!! I need braces though really bad.. A few of my teeth on the top and three on the bottom are crooked plus a couple in the back Lol Does everybody have to get spacers before putting on braces?
spacers are what the orthodontist uses to make room for the wires of the braces so yes it is necessary. I just got my spacers recently and i can attest that they do hurt….really bad! but its not so bad as long as i don’t eat lol!
I didn’t get spacers, but I got braces today. Are you suppost to be able to bite down? Because this assistant put in these things on the back of two front teeth, and now I can’t bite down, and i’d really like to bw able to chew things.
You know my teeth aren’t really that crooked, maybe I should have the orto take them out. . .I reall don’t care if I have crooked teeth, I mean you hardly even notice the crookedness. . . .
I hate these things, they’re so easy to come out or break. I had lunch after getting these on and the 3 of the rubber bands snapped. I don’t get why they don’t put a rubber band around the molar instead of putting 2 sideways.
Yeah, I know what you guys mean, I had spacers put in yesterday and I can’t even USE my back teeth because every time I bite down they shift position and they’re so loose that I could probably pull them out without much effort. Also a spacer on the roof of my mouth has sliced my tongue so there’s a groove in it.

OMG last time i went to the dentist, they said i will proally need braces…(i have a big gap between my 2 front teeth,2 on my bottom middle teeth and some by my molars) i have been reading these and i have a dentist appoinment in a week…they said they will proally set me up a ortho appt…im scared now cuz i dont want 2 have a lot of pain in my mouth…also.. my friend said the part back by ur molars like goes into your gum… Im really scared and need advice!!!

Yeah, I just had spacers put on yesterday. They really hurt bad. I only had 2 on each side, but still. I get my top braces on Tuesday. Only 5 days with the spacers on, but it still hurts real bad. Feel free to e-mail me at any time.
I got my spacer a week and 2 days ago. They just stopped hurting really bad like 2 days ago. I could not eat hardly anything. The first few hrs after getting them was not so bad but by dinner time i could not eat anything. I got 8 blue rubber ones and 3 metal ones cause my teeth were too tight! Good luck everyone. OMGGGG i got spacers yesterday at 4 and around 12 am or 1 am they hurt SO bad and when i woke up they hurt the WORST i took a ibuprofen and it went away for an hour and a half at most then the pain started again…. now its 7:37pm and the pain is back but at least it isnt as worse as it was when i woke up… i get braces in 3 days (tues) i cant WAIT to take these spacers out they hurt SO EFFINGGGGG BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i got spacers on friday!!! but then this morning one of them fell out, thank go my parents went and took me so the orthodontist put it back in. i have 8 of them. 4 on top, 4 on the bottom. yesterday they didnt hurt much, and i was able to eat chicken. BUT TODAY THEY KILL LIKE A MOTHERRRR EFFER. man they kill me like crazyyyyy. im getting braces in a week though, i cant wait. Hopefully they wont hurt as much. but i am still sorta scared. i got my braces today! They didn’t hurt at all, all day they didnt hurt, but now its 7:00 and only one of my teeth are hurting me alot. Just take a tylenol or advil when you get home, and you’ll be good for the day! but yeah only a year and a half to go! There is alot of cleaning and brushing involved, you will need atleast 15 minutes each morning so yeah. And you better clean your teeth well if you dont want pigmentation, and trust me you dont want it cuz it looks uggggglyyyyyyy! whats the poiint of having straight teeth if your teeth themselves are ugly? NO point. and this pigmentation is PERMANENT. so yeah whoever has braces, be sure to clean clean clean!
hey! Ya i got spacers.. luckely i only got one but it hurt when they put it in… then it didnt hurt that much… just eat soft foods for they first few days… then it doesnt rilli matter! i get my braces on in 17 days!!
OMG, i got spacers putu on monday and it’s wednesday now. THEY KILL. Like i cant eat anythign and my parents are getting so mad at me cuz i wont eat dinner. I am now grounded……They never had to get braces so they dont know how bad these hurt! My mouth is killing me and i have only eate ice cream and soup the past 3 days. THESE SUCK. I have 9 in and 4 fell out so i said screw it and i am sure as heck not getting them put back in.
I got 8 of those blue plastic spacer thingies in yesterday and they don’t hurt at all… they just feel a little uncomfortable! I think every person is different. I’m more scared bout getting my extractions… I have to get 4 teeth out… Does any one else have to get teeth out?

spacers tomorrow, thanks for telling the truth about how they hurt. its weird but i feel better knowing what to expect. i got four teeth pulled five days ago, i dont think im ever going to get use to the holes in my mouth, how long is that going to take to get use to?? wish me luck.
