I just had spacers put in my mouth. 12 total, 3 in each quadrant. If you’ve never had the joy of braces, spacers are the little rubber bands they put between your teeth before attaching the actual hardware. They are used to spread the molars apart enough to be able to get various metal bands in and around your teeth later.
It feels like I’ve got food stuck between every one of my teeth. And biting sucks because it forces the bands farther into the region between my teeth causing pressure on the tooth itself. Hopefully I’ll get used to it soon.

hey pplz i visited the ortho yesterday…
and dam! u have to make a mold of ur teeth.. and u have to place it in this plastic thing that fits in ur mouth.. well i did and the dam thing was too big for my mouth.. but that lady kept pushing it into my mouth. the sides of my mouth started bleading later… =[ well anyways the mixture got stuck in my teeth and i got so freakin scared!!! then they finally pulled it out.. it felt like all my teeth fell out.. well anyways i am getting my spacers put on this saturday…and then after a long week i am getting them off and then.. GETTING BRACES!!!!!!!!
Spacers are no fun, but I’m getting mine off tomorrow : ) in exchange for braces : ( This is going to be a fun filled two years.
i’m getting my spacers on monday (may 1st) i have to wear them for two weeks! then i’m getting braces on may 14! after reading all these comments, i’m going to be scared getting spacers on!!!!!!! lol
I got my spacers in last Wednesday. I have 8 total. They really hadn’t bothered me much. The one thing that bothers me the most is not being able to eat as much, because my teeth are really sensitive. I get my braces on this Thursday! I’m so excited to be on my way to a beautiful, flawless smile!
i got spacers yesturday which was sunday…around 11 in the morning..at 3 afternoon, it started hurting so bad..today i can barely eat =[ my friend told me that braces is nothing compared to spacers and i was like YAY!

I got 8 spacers put in today. 2 are metal and they hurt a lot. The Blue rubber ones dont hurt as bad. Everytime I bite down the metal one goes deeper into my gum. Yikes! Braces in 2 weeks!!!

OMG SPACERS REALLY DO HURT. When they first put them in it hurt really bad so then i went home to take ibprofen and they felt better. TAKE A PAIN RELEIVER BEFORE YOU GO! trust me, my friends did it and they said that they didnt feel much and trust me i did feel it with out the pain killers. I had 8 put in and now its the 2nd day and theyre throbing a little. Just dont bite down hard & eat some soft foods. xoxo
Yeah I got my spacers in yesterday and they suck! It hurts to eat! I need my food :'(. lol no I’m being overdramatic. But one feel out today, what now?
Oh yeah I forgot to add, I’m not gettin braces till like the 5th of June. 3 weeks with these freakin spacers, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to handle them.
omg guys…..I get my spacers on Wednesday(05/31) and I’m soooooooo scared. A week after that (June 7) I get trade them in for braces. I’ll post after I get them. Wish me luck!!!!
I hate my spacers. I just got them today and I am really excited for my braces. I feel sorry for people who have the metal spacers. I have rubber onse (6) they suck. I only have them only for a week so thats cool. well I wish all of u good luck! Bye!!!!

Spacers are different for everyone. It depends on how tight your teeth are from the beginning as to how much they will hurt. If you are like me, and you have REALLY tight teeth, it’s like a constant battle every minute you’re awake to not go into the bathroom and jerk those suckers out yourself. A mild solution of salt and hot water for a rinse helps (but you MUST do this 3-4 times a day) and asprin helps, the first day and a half I had little to NO pain – but after that – owwwww weeeee! This is day five and my pain isn’t going away. In five days I get my braces. It’s hard to not concentrate on the uncomfortable/painful sensation and not whine about it.
omg peepz, spacerz hurt sososo bad! like seriously, they do, no matter what ne1 sayz. i got them on yesterday (8) and it hurtz like heck. when does the pain go away? in just 6 hourz, my front tooth got rotated and my bottom onez are jumbled. bracez tuesday? is that more painful than spacerz?
I just got spacers today. mine really hurt and my ortho suggested to rinse your mouth with warm (not hot) salt water and it really worked. it feels so good but it tastes really bad. everyone says spacers are the worst part of braces and I believe it.
You all were right, spacers really do hurt. When the tech got started, I warned her they were going to be tought to get in…I have trouble using simple dental floss!!! After 3 failures, she had to go get the boss. WoW! That was painful. Thankfully, I’ve only got 2 weeks of this. If I don’t eat a lot of ice-cream this will be a great way to diet! I can’t eat much!!!
Ok, so I am practically one of the last people among my family and friends to get braces, and they’ve all had spacers with their braces. When I had mine put in, everyone’s immediate response was “Ahahahaha… sucks to be you!” Thanks, guys, thanks a lot.
Anyway, yes, spacers are the worst part of braces. If you floss between the teeth without spacers, it actually feels a little bit better. Just be careful that you don’t accidentally cram it between the teeth with a spacer, or it’ll hurt like heck (and most likely knock your spacer out, meaning more time with them in when your ortho finds out). Does anyone else have pinched gums with their rubber spacers? It feels like my teeth are all pinching the gums between them.
Anyway, five more days and then I’m through! Wohoo!
spacers hurt for like the first 3 days out of 2 weeks. for 3 days you can’t eat anything! i had them on like 4 weeks ago now i have braces on. braces cut your gums open and sometimes when you eat you might accidently bite your gums it hurts so bad. and food always gets stuck between your brackets.. but they only hurt when you get you get them tightened once a month then you get use to them.the only thing i liike about braces are picking band colors out.. but some people don’t get colored bands. yeeauuh
spacers hurt.. i lost weight when i had them on lol cuz i couldn’t eat anything..
spacers and braces arent as bad as everyone says they are. spacers hurt but you get over it. and when you first get braces you keep playing with them with your tongue. but after like 2 weeks you wont even notice you have them on. because you get use to it. i had a small gap between my front teeth and i got braces like 6 weeks ago now i don’t have that ugly gap between my teeth.. its worth it. 🙂

OmG. i got my spacers this morning at 11 and its now 11 at night and they styll hurt like a bitch.
i mean when i got them put in i was like “this is it?” and i came home had a bowl of ice cream and they still felt fine so about a half hour later my sister called asking if i was hungry and me not thinking about my spacers since they didnt hurt at the time, said sure i want a chicken nugget meal from mcdonalds and then after i ate my teeth got soo sore.. and ive taken so many painkillers and nothings working. does anyone have any tips??

Ok i just got spacers in my teeth yesterday (8 of them)and last night they hurt like HELL. But the main problem is that i cant bite down all the way and it feels liek my teeth are a little misaligned for my bite. Is this normal?? and has it happened to any of u guys??? please fill me in….

Man, I got spacers put in yesterday. I thought it was fine and everything was all good. I ate chips with dinner, and nothing happened. (I got them on at 4:30pm and went to dinner at 5) I went to bed at 11 and ended up staying awake until 1 in the morning because my teeth felt weird. Holy crap. This morning I was begging my mom to let me take them out. They still feel like they’re trying to rip my teeth out of the socket! Eeep!
I got spacers two days ago and they hurt like crazy. Yesterday my mom told me it was time to eat and I had a friend over. My friend got to eat my favorite food, crispy pizza, but when I ate it my teeth became sore and I had to have chicken broth. Later on my friend picked on me for that.
I’m getting braces next week and I’m really scared that it will hurt, but I’m excited about chosing out the colors, they even have glow in the dark rubber bands!
I just got spacers this mornining, 8 total. I was surprised that they didn’t hurt when the got put in. I forgot about them this afternoon, lol until i decided to eat something. I just got spacers in about 3 hours ago and I’m going crazy already. They are just annoying. I can’t wait for them to be out I still have 10 more days to go. I don’t think I can handle it.
i’m getting Spacers tomarrow at 8:45am. i am so scared now! i was fine befor i read all this. ahh! and then the next day im going to the beach and i really hope these spacers dont ruin my Vacation! well wish me luck!
Well, it has been 26 months since I first wrote this post and there is finally talk of my braces coming off. Right now, they are scheduled to be removed on September 8. I can’t wait!
While they’ve been painful (and a hassle overall), I know that I will have no regrets about the finished product.
To the rest of you: time goes quickly and your braces will be off before you even know it. Don’t forget your elastics, I’m sure that diligently wearing the rubber bands reduced the total amount of time I had the braces on.

i just got spacers in 3 hours ago. 4 of the blue rubber kind. i was supposed to get four on top and four on bottom, but my teeth were so tight together that they just kept breaking and he couldn’t get them all in. they were sore for a little bit and just felt weird. i’m scard to go to sleep though, because everyone says they start to hurt at night! lucky me, i only need them in for one week.
omg i am getting my spacers on in about 2 hours and you guys made me scared to death….i’m going to canobie lake park in two days hopefully they wont hurt as bad good thing i only have to wear them for a week!
I got spacers on six days ago. At first it didn’t hurt. They started to hurt by day three. On day four, I had some teeth pulled out. Tonight, I am pretty sure that my spacers are hurting more me than the extractions! I can’t sleep or eat right my mouth hurts so bad. However, I actually feel kinda better knowing that pain like this from spacers is normal and it does go away. It will be worth it someday soon……I just hope tomorrow they take them out!!

well i got my spacers yesterday(friday)and i get my braces monday but 10 min ago i was eating chinese and i think i swallowed one of them.it was the blu rubber one so maybe it won’t be so bad.
i don’t care what happens to me i’m still getting my braces monday cuz i told eveyrone one friday to expect to see me with a new look and some bling for my mouth everyone will be disapointed if i go back without them.
we called the orthodontist and they said don’t worry just come in a little early on monday and they will give me a new one. i guess i will wait one hour and then get my braces.

Hello. Wow, alot of pain on this pain. I got mine in today, and it really wasnt bad. It a little annoying at times and my teeth fell a little misaligned. I hope thats how its supposed to feel. And i wasnt in pain, i went to eat Jack in the Box and had a Burger and fries. Well its soft food i guess at least it wasnt a piece of steak. I hope the posts about waking up the next day in pain wasnt true.
Ouch! I just got my spacers today. They did not hurt. Then I ate lunch. Guess what? One of my spacers broke and fell out. Now that hurts. The rubber kept rubbing against my gums. Me, trying to do the right thing— I tried to put the spacer back myself. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. First of all, I did not pull off enough dental floss. Second of all, I put the spacer in between my teeth– It got lost in between my teeth. After consulting some previous brace weares, I got a little scared. Is that a bad thing? I called the ortho office. They told me to come back in and they would try it again. Wish me luck! Warm salt water is my BEST Friend. Toodles!
I got my spacers on friday the 2nd I ate everything I wanted yes it was a little uncomfortable.The on wednesday the pain from the spacers were unbareable, I nearly started to cry. I took 7 asprain and 2 tyl pm and I still could not sleep because of the pain. Now I eat ice cream and suck on potatoe chips. I have to wear them for another week. I am happy to find I am not alone in this I thought I was being a baby.
i got my spacers in the other day!!! omg they hurt for lyke to first two days and then the pain kind of reduces. it helps to relax ur mouth nad to NOT think of the pain. now everything i eat i have to heat up in the microwave to make it softer lol!!
but if your getting ur spacers on soon dont worry u’ll get through it, just dont eat anything hard and take some advil, it helps.
Oh my gosh! Damn! Can it hurt anymore? Why didn’t it hurt after they put it in? How am I suppost to sleep my first night like this? Maybe, tommorrow it will be better. Hey, pickles are good to eat. I had an easier downing that then that brocolli! Maybe some Golden Girls or Reba will help…
today i got 8 spacers in the bottom and everywhere i’ve read says they have to stay in only about a week? mine are in for 6 weeks because that’s when my next appt. is. My teeth aren’t that bad…and they put my spacers on today the same time they put my braces on…idk.
