I just had spacers put in my mouth. 12 total, 3 in each quadrant. If you’ve never had the joy of braces, spacers are the little rubber bands they put between your teeth before attaching the actual hardware. They are used to spread the molars apart enough to be able to get various metal bands in and around your teeth later.
It feels like I’ve got food stuck between every one of my teeth. And biting sucks because it forces the bands farther into the region between my teeth causing pressure on the tooth itself. Hopefully I’ll get used to it soon.

Yeah, spacers suck. I was going to get braces again but I couldn’t even handle the spacers…
yeah i have spacers put in today (8/19/04) they hurt alot and all i am basicly doing is eating ice cream. i get braces on in a week and i hope i’ll last til then lol. there are worse things in life, so if ur getting braces and spacers, don’t worry the pain should go away in a couple of days

Don’t worry, the pain will go away in 3-5 days. Then it’ll hurt again when you get braces. Count on eating mostly soups and soft foods for the next two weeks. After that, your mouth will slowly get better. After about 2 months, I can eat whatever I want without any difficulty.
i just got my spacers today they hurt
yeah i got my spacers on alls ive been eating is some nasty oatmeal, ice cream, and soup. it sucks!

I got spacers since 2/22/05… I have two up top so at east I can chew on one side. I tried to chew, but thats not possible on the side the ortho put them. It’s very annoying! March 1st I go back to get them out and guess there’s more to come. Right now its hurting, i’m trying not to think about the pain 😦
I had them put in yesterday. I felt great, and then I couldn’t eat. I have 8 of them. ALL METAL!! And I get them off in two weeks.

omg ya’ll are like scaring me i’m getting spacers this thursday and i wasn’t scared but now i kinda am i’ll tel you what i think when i get them alot of my friends have spacers and braces and hardly any of them said that they hurt they just said that their teeth were sore my friend krystal after getting her braces on went home and ate a pop-tart
and the the next day at school she ate toco salad so i don’t know!
I just got my spacers 2 days ago and they don’t bother me at all. I was so afraid because i heard so much about them but unless i close my mouth down hard i can’t even feel that they’re there. I have 8 total and the worst/best thing is that i cant eat much with them so hopefully i’ll lose a couple of pounds :-).
OMG i just got my spacers today they hurt like heck!!! I took some Ibuprofen to help the pain but its not working so far. i took it about an hour or two ago, anyways its not that i can’t eat anything hard its that if i do than it hurts! i had macaroni and cheese with cheesy potatoes (some of them were really hard!) but now im going to eat ice cream hopefullly it will make me feel better 🙂
Omg wow…I just got spacers on yesterday and I was up all night crying because I was in so much pain. I was so tempted to just pull them out:-( im taking alot of advil..it helps a little. My boyfriends just fell out after about 3 days…
i’m supposed to get my braces put on tuesday…my best friend told me she didn’t eat for 3 days and they hurt a lot. but she said that was the worst part, the braces were fine.
i’ll post how it went after i have it done.
OMG, these things suck!
Yeah they hurt like crap, I hate the darn things. I just got them yesterday, but all I wanna do is rip them out. I’ve taken so much asprin, tylenol, and pretty much any other pain killer out there, but nothing helps. I can’t eat much of anything, I tryed to eat a potato chip, holly crap I’ll never do that again. I wish I could just pull them out and forget braces, but you just have to remeber if you want a good smile it’s worth it. My ortho rated me like an 8/10 in severity of needing braces. My teeth look awful they’re all crooked, and overlapping. So I want them corrected. I’m tempted to go to my dentist and tell him to give me a shot of that antstetic, lol.
Man, I Just Got Spacers Yesterday And Right Afterwards, I Was Thinking….Okay? Where Is The Pain…While I Was Sleeping I Woke Up I So Much Pain! The Pressure Is Almost Unbarable And I Want To Just Rip Them Out. I Can’t Eat Anything!! This Sucks
I just got my spacers in on Tuesday and I have been in so much pain. I’ve learned a trick…before eating swallow a pain pill. IT WORKS!!!
I got my spacers yesterday. They hurt when they got put on, and they hurt after for about 4-5 hours, but now(unless I bite down REALLY hard) they don’t hurt, I just feel a constant pushing feeling on my teeth, other than the fact that one of them feels like it’s gonna fall out in 2 seconds(it’s felt like that sense I got them), they aren’t a problem.
Today I got my spacers. ( The rubber kind ) They didn’t hurt but only when they were flossing them in. But just for a second. I have to keep them on for a week them a get my braces! But people say that spacers are the worst part and if they are braces aren’t gonna hurt. Now i can’t have gum for the next 2 and a half years! I’m just a fraid that the spacers are gonna fall out.

OK I got my spacers in like a couple weeks ago and they were the rubber kind…anyways i couldn’t take the pain so i ripped them out now i’m stuck with new ones.my ortho yelled at me..and i have to got through the pain all over again..so don’t rip them out!!
I am getting spacers October 10th. I am really scared about it.Cause i keep reading all these horrible outcomes of spacers and its just SCARING ME!!!

I feel your pain!!! I just got spacers put in Monday and they hurt so bad, but they are slowly getting better…and this coming Monday i get braces…so hopefully i’ll be able to eat or something soon! I hope it doesn’t hurt too bad. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE
Oh ya…lol don’t try eating chicken or any other kind of meat…bad IDEA! i hope they don’t fall out or whatever…mine are the blue rubber kind..and ugh it just feels like something is stuck there and will never come out! so basically all i eat is icecream/soup/mashed potatoes/macaroni/applesauce…yum..

Yall are lucky, I got my spacers put in yesterday, it didn’t hurt at all that day, then this morning i woke up in pain, omg it hurts so much. BE LUCKY YOUR SPACERS ARE LITTLE RUBBER BANDS… Mine are metal!!! I hate it… they put in one side of the rubber band, put metal in it, the metal looked like really thick staples, then they put the other side of the rubber band on top of it, and in 4 of my teeth, i don’t have rubberbands, only the metal it sucks, and i ate mcdonalds today, i was in so much pain.. god, i’m sticking to soft foods from now on…
hey people i just got spacers on yesterday and they hurt when i was getting them on and after that they didnt hurt really all day. but then i went to bed and i kept waking up. then i woke up in the morning and i felt like my teeth were falling out, they were throbing. i hate them so much, i want to rip them out. anyone going to get spacers and braces im not trying to scare you or anything but they hurt like heck. but in the end it is all worth it, nice smile 🙂
This all sounds to be so much fun. Ha! I get spacers put in Tuesday 10/11 and Wednesday I get a wisdom tooth pulled. I have been suffering with the tooth for 3 days now. I have a hole in it and it feels like a dry socket. So now hearing how bad theses spacers are, I guess I’ll be in more pain. What am I getting myself into. Urgghh!
I just got my spacers in two days ago. It was a little un-comfortable when they put then in, then it didn’t hurt at all. It tickled kind of. The tickling grew worse, and then at night I couldn’t really eat. I was tempted to just pull them out, and I couldn’t really sleep. It wasn’t enough to make me cry, but it’s really annoying. >.
I got my spacers put in yesterday and they hurt like crazy! I tried eating a hotdog at school and i failed. I got home and i tried to eat pasta and i failed again. IM SO HUNGRY lol.

Gah!! I just got my spacers yesterday, and she put them in and I was like..this isn’t so bad.. I went and got a halloween costume n everything..then it started to hurt and I thought that was the worst…WRONG. I woke up three times last night with them throbbing. I didn’t even go to school today..they better hurry up n get better, we have HUGE 1st ever Halloween dance at school tomorow night.. n it’s gonna suck not being able to touch my bottom teeth to my top teeth. I have 4 on both sides of my mouth, so there’s no way to eat nethang except mashed potatoes and bananas.. my dad totally tortured me n picked up KFC on the way home. I wanted to kill him! N if u do get rubber ones, don’t think there easy, I have the blue rubber kind to..and they hurt!!!
I am really scared now. I am getting four teeth removed and then getting spacers for two weeks. Will they all fall out before the two weeks are over?. All these stories are really scary WISH ME LUCK X

I got my spacers(rubber kind, 8 of um). I dont think they have stopped hurting for more than a hour. I have to have them for a month due to i have to get teeth pulled. Ive tried not to pull um out and i have be successful so far. But i dont know if i can handle a month of this.:(
hey guys. i got my spacers today, and it only hurt when they were putting them in. it felt uncomfortable afterwards, but im getting used to them. when i had a piece of sushi before, it felt like my teeth were loose. i was reading all these replies and i got scared because i havent slept with them yet. i was wondering whether it really did hurt when u woke up. i guess i have to wait until tomorrow 😦
I got spacers this morning! The mental ones! they aren’t so bad…but all the replys say that they killed them my tonight! So I am Really scared! IDK! Hope not! I get my braces on tuesday! (11/29) So wish me luck! 😀

HELP! I just got my spacers on yesterday but this morning on of them hurt so bad that I tried to loosen it just a tad with tweezers, well, IT FELL OUT! how do i get it back in on my own? my mom cant take me back in to get it put it, and i cant seem to shove it up there so that it stays. any techniques? please! i dont wnat it to hurt when I get my expandor AND braces on friday! PLEASE!
k everyone, after my mom talked some sense into me, she made me realize that trying to put them in myself was a bad idea. She took off work *not so happy about it* but she did. I went and got it put in by a PROFESSIONAL not an inexpirienced 13 year old. lol.
maaaaaaan i got spacers today (4 on the bottom, 2 on the top) but only one on the top hurts. people have been telling me to eat ice cream or rinse with warm salt water, BUT NOTHING WORKS ! maaaan i can`t get rid of the pain. i think the one that`s hurting was pushed in too much because all the spacers are visible except that one =/

I got my spacers yesterday and they hurt soooo bad!!! I can’t chew anything. I have to chew with my tounge and two front teeth it hurts so bad and the tylonal, advil, and ibuprofen doesn’t help either! I hurts so bad and I have to wear them for another 24 days because I couldn’t get into the orthodontist! They stink!
I know the pain they hurt like crazy. After reading all of these I hope the advice works. But I can tell you this, don’t bite down hard on them just relax your mouth.
i just got spacers four days ago and they still hurt!!! maybe thats cuz one fell out and when i went to get it replaced they put in four extras!! so now i have eight spaccers and i cant touch my top teeth to my bottom teeth so if i want to chew i have to like mash my tongue against the roof of my mouth. uggggh! My new fave meal= apple sauce and jello. ive lost 4 pounds!:o(
I got 8 metal spacers installed yesterday afternoon( I was lucky that I ate my lunch earlier). It feels like something stuck in between my teeth, very uncomfortable. For dinner, I could not even chew a piece of bread. I settled with some puree of eggplant!!!
I don’t snack and eat 3 times daily. But now, I don’t even look forward to eat at all. Eating regular food is a luxury that I could not afford at this time, damn you metal spacers.(weeping miserably) I try to focus on anything but my mouth because it hurts so bad.
I got spacers yesterday and my gums started to hurt this morning when I woke up. When I’m not biting on anything I’m fine and feel no pain. I can tell though that I’m going to have to stick to extremely soft/liquid foods. It really is not that bad. Its more uncomfortable than anything.
hey ppl well i posted somthing on here a while back and now i’m back. well i posted how much i hated spacers. well now i got the braces and there not as bad as ppl say. i mean they are sore after the day you get them tightened but after that it is all goo. well i’m getting used to them. 🙂
I just had spacers put in yesterday(the rubber ones), I have to wear them for 2 weeks. They hurt really bad, like I was hit in the mouth. I was just wondering though, do they hurt when they pull them out? I have been using anbesol on my teeth and gums to help with the pain.
