It’s the IQ, stupid

Salon.com analyzed last night’s presidential debates in an article entitled It’s the IQ, stupid.

John Kerry didn’t destroy George W. Bush in the presidential debate Thursday night. John Kerry didn’t turn water into wine, and he might not have turned any red states blue. But for 90 minutes, John Kerry put George W. Bush on the defensive. For 90 minutes, John Kerry looked like he could be president. And for the moment — for the moment — a race that once seemed lost suddenly seems alive again.

John Kerry won.

Bush’s Top Ten Flip-Flops

CBS News | Bush’s Top Ten Flip-Flops

“We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories.”(May 29, 2003)

“I recognize we didn’t find the stockpiles [of weapons] we all thought were there.” (Sept. 9, 2004)

President Bush

Maybe Kerry really isn’t the flip flopper after all.

Not that it really matters, I’d rather have a president willing to change his mind if he is wrong rather than someone who blindly follows the same doctrine constantly.

Are You Better Off?

I came across a series of graphs showing economic trends during the past few presidential eras. Rather than remake the graphs from scratch and provide witty commentary, I’ll just quote Michael Hanscom.

Ontario Emperor pointed out a series of graphs from Buzzflash highlighting some of the numbers behind how our country is doing. Not that surprising if you’ve been paying attention, but certainly interesting to see.

The question, of course, is whether a Kerry presidency would have numbers close to what Clinton’s produced, and there’s really no way of knowing that at this stage in the game. I’d hate to see where these graphs end up after four more years of Bush, however.
