And Thus Concludes Spring Break

All good things must come to an end. And thus concludes spring break. On the whole it went fast…. way too fast. I ended up working a good 40-ish hours at Walgreens—enough to make some spending money.

I’ve got the joy of three midterms this week. The first is in Physics Lab—it should be mostly on probability and statistics. Topics include mean, standard deviation, deviance, uncertainty calculations, Gaussian and Poisson distributions, and other counting statistics.

Wednesday brings a midterm in my Algebra class. It shouldn’t be too hard, although I’m sure to have forgotten all of the subject matter of break. Something with Rings and Ideals and other complex/useless stuff. Or if it has a use, it has eluded me thus-far.

Friday brings a midterm in Quantum Mechanics. And by midterm, I mean midterm since this is the only class that has only one midterm. I’ll have to go relearn particle/wave duality, and the Schrödinger equation. After that we covered Fourier transforms and wavepackets. A few hours of studying should bring most of it back to current memory.

RSS

I’d like to also take this time to introduce all of you to a thing called RSS (Really Simple Syndication). Essentially you can get a free RSS Reader which every so often (ie: hourly) checks a bunch of news feeds (ie: each one of the blogs you read) and alerts you when there are updates.

It’s kinda (well totally) geeky, but it’s slick and can save bunches of time.

Oh, and for those curious enough to actually try, the RSS URL for Xanga sites is for example http://www.xanga.com/rss.aspx?user=froehle, obviously replacing “froehle” with the username of whoever you want.

My Head Hurts

The plastic surgery wasn’t too bad. They just numbed me up and sliced away. I had 2 moles and one cyst removed. The other two moles will have to wait until the summer (they were smaller/less irritating). The topical anesthetic is starting to wear off (which sucks), but I just took some tylenol and I’m hoping that’ll help with the pain. And I’ve got some vicodin left over from my wisdom teeth removal that should help me fall asleep easily tonight. Just seven days with the stitches until I can get them removed :).

Mole Removal

11 hours until I get some moles removed on my head. I’m a little nervous, but I’m sure it’ll all go well.

Sorry the updates have been so sparse, but there’s just nothing that important going on in my life currently!

Ooh, when school starts up again be prepared for the new revamping of my self-hosted website, at which point I’ll move my blog there. For a preview see http://froehle.dyndns.org:88/ during the hours that my computer is on (ie noonish-midnight).

(Or for an older (but partially abandoned) and similar project, see http://www-users.itlabs.umn.edu/~froe0071/).

Todo: Mole Removal

In 11 hours I’m having a mole removal procedure for a couple moles on my head. They won’t have time to get to all of them, but at least they should take care of the couple really big ones.

Here’s to hoping that all goes well!

ITLabs

Well I finally got this thing setup over at ITLabs. The confusion was mostly over perl, as /usr/bin/perl was version 5.0.something that didn’t have a lot of modules (namely DB_File) available. However, with a quick switch to Perl 5.6.0 (/soft/perl5.6-bin/perl) fixed everything.

Ahh, such is life… more later.

U Band

Dude, everybody at the U should do UBand in the spring. I’m pumped. Anyway, I got Diem’s email today… what time (early or late) did y’all choose?

MWSF

I can’t wait for the Keynote Address at Mac World San Francisco TOMORROW!. I’ll be heading to the Apple Store at the Mall of America to watch, in favor of watching it at home over a video stream. With rumors running rampant, it’ll be interesting to see which are true and which aren’t.

I need to take a shower and head to work. Then it’ll be sleep time in order to awake at the 11am broadcast! (Although I’m aiming to get to the MOA by 10:15 or so in order to get a seat—-last time at the WWDC Keynote the place was totally packed and I got one of the last seats).

I  my Mac.
