RSS

I’d like to also take this time to introduce all of you to a thing called RSS (Really Simple Syndication). Essentially you can get a free RSS Reader which every so often (ie: hourly) checks a bunch of news feeds (ie: each one of the blogs you read) and alerts you when there are updates.

It’s kinda (well totally) geeky, but it’s slick and can save bunches of time.

Oh, and for those curious enough to actually try, the RSS URL for Xanga sites is for example http://www.xanga.com/rss.aspx?user=froehle, obviously replacing “froehle” with the username of whoever you want.

About

So you came here wanting to know more about me?

Who Am I?

I’m currently a student at the University of Minnesota. I’m majoring in Math and Physics. After college I aspire to go to graduate or medical school. On campus I’m involved in the band program, namely Marching Band and Basketball Pepband. I’m also doing University Bands this spring which is a non-audtion concert band.

I am 19 years old.

HR 3920

Just when I though politicians couldn’t get any dumber, let me introduce HR 3920

Short Title: Congressional Accountability for Judicial Activism Act of 2004
Official Title: To allow Congress to reverse the judgments of the United States Supreme Court.

[stops and blinks]

WHAT?!

Never ever vote for these crazies (the sponsors and co-sponsors): Row Lewis [KY], Howard Coble [NC], Mac Collins [GA], Jim DeMint [SC], John Doolittle [CA], Terry Everett [AL], Trent Franks [AZ], Virgil Goode, Jr. [VA], Joel Hefley [CO], Jack Kingston [GA], Joseph Pitts [PA], and Richard Pombo [CA].

Oh, and what if the law gets passed. And then the supreme court says “I don’t think so.” But then congress could overturn that ruling.. and we can see that’s not going anywhere.

The Truth For Youth

I usually don’t write about religion and such here, but this is just too much for me to take. This The Truth For Youth propaganda that some right wing catholic zealots are crazy. I mean it’s one thing to skew the facts to support your point of view, but some of the crap they say (especially in the video — the link is in the upper right) is outrageous.

For example (as Ann Marie points out):

  • The US is not number one in illiteracy, and even if we were, it’s not because of a lack of religion in our youth.
  • The founding fathers did not base America off of religion. In fact there is something called the separation of church and state — not the let’s just force everyone to believe in the holy bible that they are trying.

Ooh, and the gay comment just floors me. How can someone have the audacity to say something like “It’s a shame that they gay people too lazy that they come out of the closet instead of cleaning the closet” (ie, it’s too bad that they’re admitting to being gay rather than converting to homosexuality — I kind of butchered the quote a little — it’s in the movie).

I have no tolerance for people who are bigots in the name of God. God preaches tolerance and acceptance!

Update

Wow! It’s been so long since I’ve last done this.

Let’s recap some important events:
Friday was a night never to be forgotten (or remembered for that reason). I owe Beka the most sincere apology (although I don’t think I was as bad to her as she described it). Note to self: unless you want the wrath of Beka again, stay away from Nick Cruise’s drinks.

Saturday and Sunday were filled with Basketball band (too bad the Gopher’s can’t win ever…) and homework. I had to type up my lab report for physics… quite an indepth piece of work. The Oscar’s were on Sunday and surprisingly I guessed 14/24 correctly, a pretty good feat since I hadn’t really looked into what the critics thought. It did help that I had seen a good number of the movies on the ballot (and mostly the ones that won as well). Max’s Oscar party was fun, but I didn’t stay for too long (had to get the homework done and there were too many Grand Rapids High Schoolers).

Monday went quickly-mostly working on that pesky physics lab report and wasting time playing with Textpattern.

Tuesday is for Physics Lab. Time to play with radioactive stuff! Kinda crazy. Nothing like the Geiger counter reporting 2000 counts in the matter of a couple seconds.

Ooh, and Tuesday Night is for Caucuses! I went to the DFL one. It was kinda interesting but mostly a lot of formalities. I at least felt that I was able to have my opinion heard (through a straw poll for the presidential candidates and voting on several resolutions). I voted for Edwards (who turned out to be the candidate to receive the fewest number of positive votes). Interestingly enough (well, not really since it is a college campus), Kucinich got the most votes (43), then Kerry with 32-ish, and lastly Edwards with 13. I really considered voting for Al Sharpton, but wussed out in the end and voted for Edwards.
